A very small cloud
High above Willow Valley lived a cloud called Pip. He was about the size of a pillow. The other clouds were as big as castles.
“Come along!” they rumbled, sailing toward the mountains. Pip puffed out his cheeks and hurried after them. But a tiny breeze sent him tumbling behind a hill.
By the time he stopped spinning, the sky was empty. Well, almost empty. Below him, a single sunflower drooped in a cracked little garden.
One little drop
“Are you lost too?” Pip asked. “Thirsty,” whispered the sunflower. “The big clouds never notice my garden.”
Pip looked at his small, fluffy middle. He had never made rain before. He squeezed his eyes shut. He thought of rivers and puddles and the splash of a frog.
Plip. One drop landed on a leaf. Then another. Then a whole tiny shower! The sunflower lifted her golden head. “Oh,” she said. “That is exactly enough.”
Exactly enough
Pip spent the afternoon watering the garden. A beetle had a drink. A worm took a shower. The sunflower stood so tall that she could see over the fence.
When the big clouds returned, they found Pip resting above a bright patch of green. “We wondered where you went!” they thundered.
“I had something important to do,” said Pip. He was still the smallest cloud in the sky. But down in the garden, he had made a very big difference.
