A light in the window
Every evening, Milo waved goodnight to the moon. Every evening, the moon stayed awake. “You must be terribly tired,” Milo decided.
He built a rocket from a watering can, two bicycle bells, and an exceptionally springy carrot. He packed a blanket and a sandwich. Three, two, one… BOING!
Past the chimney, past the clouds, past a very surprised goose, Milo bounced into the soft, silver night.
Moon sandwiches
The moon was sitting quietly among the stars. “I brought you a blanket,” said Milo. “In case you want a nap.”
“How lovely,” said the moon. “But I like being awake. I keep the lost boats company. And the owls. And children who are a little afraid of the dark.”
Milo sat down. They shared his sandwich and watched a ship find its way home. Far below, someone opened a bedroom curtain and smiled.
Someone to wave to
“Do you ever get lonely?” asked Milo. “Sometimes,” the moon admitted. Milo thought for a moment. Then he had a very good idea.
Back at home, he gathered his friends by the hill. Every night, they would wave. A frog waved one foot. A fox waved her tail. Milo waved both ears.
And every night, the moon shone a little brighter. Not because the night was darker. Because now, someone was saying hello.
A little thought to take with you
Who could you say hello to, so they feel a little less lonely?
